Straight Outta NASA
We're going back to the Moon...
and this time it's to stay!
Artemis - named after the twin
sister of Apollo
Learning to live and work on another world for the benefit of humanity...
A CHECKLIST OF FIRSTS COMING UP IN THE ARTEMIS PROGRAM
In 2021 the first Commercial Lunar Payload Services deliveries will begin, with two companies delivering sixteen instruments to the Lunar surface. Paving the way for human explorers.
This golf cart sized rover will be the first to investigate lunar polar soil samples to characterise the distributions and concentrations of volatiles, including water, across a large region of the Moon.
This small satellite will be the 1st spacecraft to enter the Lunar Near Rectilinear Orbit Halo Orbit - the future home of the gateway. It will test new navigation techniques to validate predictive models, reducing uncertainties about the orbit.
The uncrewed maiden flight of the Space Launch System - SLS - rocket and Orion spacecraft will verify spacecraft performance and test Orion's heat shield during its high speed Earth reentry at nearly 5000 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Power & Propulsion Element (PPE) & the Habitation & Logistics Outpost (HALO) are the first pieces of the Gateway. On-board science investigations from NASA & ESA will conduct early characterisation of the deep space environment.
On this 10 day crewed test flight, NASA astronauts will set the record for the farthest human travel from Earth. They will validate deep space communication & navigation systems & ensure that life support systems keep them healthy & safe.
With confidence gained through Artemis I & II, Orion & its crew will once again travel to the Moon. This time boarding the Human Landing System that will bring the first woman and the next man to the lunar surface.
The #Artemis program is well underway!
Learn more about NASA’s lunar exploration plans - including how they will land the first woman and the next man on the Moon in 2024.

KELLY MARIE TRAN INTRODUCES SLS - 'JOURNEY TO THE MOON'
While Apollo placed the first steps on the Moon, Artemis opens the door for humanity to sustainably work and live on another world for the first time.
Using the lunar surface as a proving ground for living on Mars, this next chapter in exploration will forever establish our presence in the stars.
SPACESUITS - THE ARTEMIS GENERATION
Spacesuits are personalized spaceships that mimic all of the protections from the harsh environment of space and the basic resources that Earth and its atmosphere provide.
Spacesuit Engineers Amy Ross, Kristine Davis and Dustin Gohmert showcase the advanced features of the next generation spacesuits that will be worn by astronauts as they explore the Moon as part of the Artemis program.
